Homeschool Day 1
Tava found her way to the kitchen first and pulled out a carton of eggs. I thought, WOW! I am such a good mom at teaching my kids how to cook that the older ones must have taught the younger ones. So I pulled out my phone to get a photo opp of this magnificent occassion. She turned on the stove then turned to me and asked, "Can you help me?" So this photo opp turned into a teaching opp and I documented it along the way through pictures and personal instruction.

11am we have family scripture study and use the "Come, Follow Me" curriculum from church. I love this curriculum because there is a version for Individuals and Families as well as one for Primary children. I also use the seminary student manual as a supplement to my own reading and comprehension. About 11:40am we're done, have family prayer and the kids have 20 minutes before they are expected to start with school work.
NOON
2nd Grade: Tava gets on ABC Mouse (which I registered for yesterday because it is free the first 30 days). They have games for math, language arts, reading and all sorts of educational games and topics. Tava also had piano practice to do and 20 minutes of reading to get done afterwards.
6th Grade: In the meantime, Filimone and I focus on the Rock Cycle. I found a youtube that explains all about it and a foldable that he was able to do from Pinterest. After that I printed a cursive handwriting practice sheet for him to use. He also set a goal to read 50 pages a day which he began after his handwriting time was up.
Preschool: Once I got Filimone situated with his cursive, I turned my attention to Nifai. We worked on the letter A today. We started off with a flashcard, then a YouTube song for the letter A. Then I got him some sugar and colored it with blue food coloring so he could use it to work on his handwriting skills, dexterity, and the letter A. He LOVED it!
8th Grade: Lia did some research on Tongan myths and legends. She then registered for a personal and FREE account on DUOLINGO which helps students learn lots of different foreign languages. She has been taking PreAP Spanish so that was where she chose to continue her focus. She also took some time to go through the first lesson of our church Self Reliance book that concentrates on Starting and Growing Your Own Business for her math lesson today.
9th & 11th Grade: The two older boys were supposed to be working on their seminary modules and drivers' education modules. They also chose to do a Self Reliance class called Personal Finances. To be honest, I didn't even check up on them today. I just assumed that they were doing what they were supposed to and followed the plan we typed up yesterday. Vita is pretty good about following a schedule or goal and Folau isn't too bad either.
4PM-The kids should be done with school work. By now they are playing outside, listening to music and watching their favorite shows or channels, just like they would after school on a normal day.
Tuesdays are Filimone's assigned dinner day and he chose Mexican Lasagna. You can watch our video by clicking on this link. I guess you could say it was a BIG HIT with the family!
