Homeschool Day 2: The kids are teaching ME!
Today we had a very functional and productive day. I must confess, we did not go to bed until almost 3am again. UGH--it is something I will definitely be working on. But here is what was going on with my kids and their education today:
Scripture Study
We did our Come, Follow Me lesson for Jacob 5:15-28. We talked about all the phrases that helped us know the Lord truly cared for the olive trees of his vineyard. Then we drew parallels to all the ways we know the Lord truly cares for His children. We also talked about what's currently going on in the world and how we can find peace, comfort and strengthen our faith amidst a time of uncertainty. Fear and Faith cannot coexist so we will go forth in FAITH!

Math
Math consisted of Khan Academy for Filimone which is great because it is free and has math lessons catered to all grade levels. It started out easy for him and got progressively more difficult, which tells me it is perfect. He worked pretty hard and will take a breather until tomorrow.
Subtraction Flashcards for Tava- Subtraction has been a weak area for her. She used buttons as manipulatives to help her visualize the problems and figure them out quicker.
Personal Finance for Folau & Vita: They are still working with the workbooks which I love because each lesson has a spiritual aspect to finances.
Social Studies
Filimone learned a bit about North America including Canada and the USA. He labeled all the states in the US as well as the physical features of North America. I did not know Canada was the most diverse country in the world, did you?

Lia wanted to do a lesson on New Zealand. I gave her the freedom to learn what she wanted about it and how she wanted to learn. This is what she came up with. I learned some things too! Who knew that New Zealand was the first country to allow women to vote? That's awesome!
Language Arts
Vita and Folau both are studying the Tongan language with "Intensive Course in Tongan" book. Their goal is to hold a conversation in Tongan with their grandma in a few months, in Tongan of course.

Nifai is still learning to recognize the letter A and did a gluing activity with cheerios on some paper. He was so proud!
Art
Tava, Filimone and Nifai all learned about the color wheel today. They watched a very easy to understand and kid friendly video on YouTube then did the same worksheet I gave to my 9th grade students as we began talking about interior design. Tava used the color wheel to color in a mandala coloring sheet. It's beautiful

Music
Tava is taking piano lessons from me so she continued working on the assigned pieces from our lesson on Monday
Vita is my REAL pianist. He's already finished all the Bastien Theory books and has checked out some books from the library to enhance his knowledge and help him learn how to produce and compose music.

Folau is taking an "Intro to Music" course from BYU Independent Study. He already plays guitar, bass, and ukulele but wanted to get into the history of music.

Science
Brain Pop is a winner, ya'll. Lia decided to learn about earthquakes since that was such a scare in various places today and affected some of our extended family. She even created a google presentation about it.
Filimone learned about the CoronaVirus and got new facts that helped him be more informed about how it is spread and so forth. The more knowledge you have, the less fearful you become.
Reading
Everyone has done their portion of reading a good book and I loved seeing the wheels turning in their heads. You can't see him under the sleeping bag, but Filimone is reading his book on the top bunk.
Driver's Education
Folau and Vita are trucking away with their modules and tracking how much time they are spending on the "Classroom" hours for their license
